Honest 3D · height is real data
Each ridge is shot-attempt density — a kernel-density estimate computed in your browser from the game's 135 real shot coordinates. Height means shot volume from that spot, not expected goals: we don't invent a dimension we don't have data for. Minnesota attacks left, Buffalo right — the two ranges are each team's shooting territory. Drag to orbit.
Reading it: tall green peaks in the slot = where Minnesota generated volume; Buffalo's gold range is lower and more spread. The rings are the game's 5 goals, sitting on the ice where each was shot. Every height is the same KDE, computed from the raw coordinates — no smoothing you can't reproduce.
