Read the Game
The game itself — the league’s rules, named as they happen
Icing
The puck is sent the length of the ice and play comes straight back. Watch where the faceoff goes — that dot is the whole punishment.

Faceoffs
Nine spots on the ice and the rule picks one. An icing brings the draw all the way back — same second as the whistle, and deep in the offending team’s own end.

Offside
This is the one rule we can draw but never replay: the feed records the call and the restart, never the crossing. So in a real game, watch the line rather than the play.

Penalties
A penalty is time off the ice: the offender sits, and his team plays a skater short — unless the other team commits a penalty of the same duration at the same time, and then both teams skate with the same number of players. The side with the extra skater is on a power play: the same penalty, named from the other bench.

Overtime
A hockey game does not end level. If the score is tied after sixty minutes, both teams drop to three skaters and a goaltender, and the next goal wins — five minutes of it, and a shootout after that if nobody scores. In the playoffs there is no shootout and nobody leaves the ice: they play full periods, five a side, until someone scores.

The empty net
Losing late, a team trades its goaltender for a sixth skater. Nothing is toggled here — the goalie is simply no longer on the ice.

What we count — our own measurements, each showing its work
Control
Every shot attempt, counted for both teams as it happens. This is the first one of the game.

Goaltending
Saves as a fraction, built while you watch. This is the first shot the goaltender had to deal with.

Every one of these leads to a real game, and all but one are from one night — MIN at BUF, 10 November 2023 — with 11 of the 14 in the first period alone. The one that cannot be shown there — a game has to reach overtime to teach it — opens DAL at PHI, 29 March 2026. Every other game we hold is reachable from the front page.
